Trail connects Talent & Ashland

As 1998 draws to a close, I can report outstanding progress on the Greenway trail this year. The construction at the North Medford interchange is complete. The Talent section was repaired, including a wonderful new bridge that arches over Bear Creek in a fashion that will better withstand flooding. Finally, the beautiful new Ashland section is complete with two new bridges.

Four major cites are now tied into at least five continuous miles of the trail system. To the north, Medford and Central Point are joined to the trail from Barnett Road to Peninger road leading into Jackson County Expo Park. To the south, the trail system runs from east Ashland (near Nevada Street) to Lynn Newbry Park in Talent.

The combined populations of these four cities is about 100,000 people. As our area continues to grow the use and the importance of the Greenway trail will grow as well.

The Bear Creek Greenway Foundation is dedicated to completing the entire trail system as soon as possible. We are over half way there. With your continued support, and the work of many people and organizations, we will meet our goal.

Greenway Endowment

The Bear Creek Greenway Foundation board is establishing an endowment fund with the Oregon Community Foundation. The endowment is thanks to a generous gift by Isabel Sickels shortly before her untimely death this year. We will tell you more about the greenway endowment in the new year.
