Baldwin Saloon

Baldwin Saloon
The Dalles has several good places to eat; the one I found was the Baldwin Saloon, right downtown. The food was way better than average, with both the poached wild Columbia River salmon and the whole Dungeness crab entrees superb, the sides and salads OK, and the Mango Swedish Creme dessert utterly and unspeakably delicious.

Painting in the Baldwin Saloon

Built in 1876, the building features various antique fixtures, including an 18-foot mahogany back bar built in the early 1900's. Turn-of-the-century oil paintings decorate the building's old brick walls, including some Pacific Northwest landscapes by J.J. Englehart.
