The Jordan River Utah Temple

The Jordon River Temple The Angel Moroni

Lone Peak

Utah's Jordan River flows from Lake Utah to the Great Salt Lake; it is not what you would call one of the Great Rivers of the American West. The Jordan River Temple is in South Jordan, Utah, between Salt Lake City and Provo. It was dedicated in 1981.

A statue of the angel Moroni (pronounced "more oh nigh") stands high atop this Temple spire, as on many of the other temples.

The mountain is Lone Peak, rising to over 11,000 feet at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley. Where the mountain slopes down at the left of the picture is Little Cottonwood Canyon, the location of the granite quarry for the stones of the Salt Lake Temple, and the location of the extraction of stone for the new assembly building across the street from Temple Square in Salt Lake City. The canyon is also the location of the Church's Granite Mountain Records Vault, where is stored, primarily, the genealogical microfilm masters for the Family History Library. [This paragraph submitted by Mike Provard.]

The Jordon River Temple is the fourth largest of all the LDS temples.
