$1,000 grant earmarked for improvement project
Talent Wal-Mart has awarded Bear Creek Greenway Foundation a $1,000 grant to use for the Greenway trail. The Bear Creek Greenway Foundation is one of over 2,300 organizations with community-based projects that would make a difference in that community.
"We are excited to partner with the Greenway on this project," said the Wal-Mart store manager Lisa Bardi. "The Make-A-Difference Day projects are a way that our associates can thank this community for the support they have shown us.
Al Densmore receives state award for Greenway workAt their annual conference in Bend, the Oregon Recreation & Parks Association (ORPA) presented the 1998 Distinguished Service Award to Al Densmore for his work on the Bear Creek Greenway program. From 1963 forward, ORPA has recognized one person each year who demonstrates exceptional dedication to parks and recreation in Oregon.
Al's unique commitment to the Greenway program is this:
- while serving in the state legislature in 1973 Densmore successfully championed the Bear Creek Greenway bill;
- while serving as Medford mayor from 1977 to 1983, Al carried on his support of the Greenway; and
- Al continues working for the Greenway as vice president of the Foundation Board, and coordinating events and fundraisers such as the recent Greenway Classic.
"Al's award is richly deserved," said County Commissioner Jack Walker. "The work of the Greenway Foundation is very important to our community, and Al's recognition is another indication that the Greenway is admired around the state."
