The site here is a Mormon center, with not only the temple, but a museum and graveyard also. This is where groups of pioneers spent the first winter on their trek to Utah and other places in the west. Many were followers of Brigham Young who had been compelled to leave Nauvoo, Illinois, after the death of Joseph Smith.
The temple itself is one of the newer mini-temples in design, although it is larger than many of them, I think.
You may buy the LDS Temples CD, which has on it all of the Temple photos on this site, plus about two hundred more -- over 400 altogether -- in a larger size, suitable for viewing full screen or printing your own enlargements. Sample photo from CD.
